Downtown San Diego’s skyscrapers were designed with a mechanic’s toolbox in mind, to reflect the city’s history as one of the country’s most important Naval installations. The three most well known examples:
- One America Plaza: a Phillips screwdriver
- Manchester Grand Hyatt: flathead screwdrivers
- Emerald Plaza: eight Allen wrenches bunched together
