In September 1773, Maria Theresa sent her daughter a jeweled flower, placed in a pot bearing her portrait. Marie Antoinette received the gift while she was receiving an audience, and later wrote to her mother, “What a joy, what a glory for me to show so charming a mark of maternal love!”
