siphonophora:

Kumu hula Edith Kanaka’ole composed a Hulihia chant for the 1977 lava flow at Kahauaela.  Just before the flow, there was an earthquake in the early morning, followed by a giant flash of lightning.  It was thought that the flow would reach Kalapana.  The chant addresses how the people of Kalapana felt about Pele; if she wanted to come, she would.  After all, she shaped the land, and while the people are permitted to live and raise their families upon it, it belongs to her.  This chant also describes how the people from the other islands came to know and experience Pele through the smoke and sulfur she spread across all the islands.
